Security and Privacy

Free Screencast records and processes media locally. This page explains the application boundary, the website data boundary, and how to verify the current installer.

Application privacy

  • No account is required to use the recorder.
  • Recordings, snapshots, trimmed copies, and exported GIFs stay in folders you choose on your PC.
  • The application contains no analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or automatic cloud-upload feature.
  • Disabled microphone and camera sources are not requested by the recording workflow.
  • The application does not install a browser extension, capture driver, or background Windows service.

Free Screencast uses bundled FFmpeg tools locally for recording and media operations. Your output is not sent to an online conversion service.

Website privacy

The website does not currently use Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or third-party social-sharing scripts. Like most web servers, it records standard request information such as IP address, time, requested URL, response status, browser user agent, and referrer. Raw request logs are retained for security and reliability for up to 14 days; aggregate counts without raw IP addresses may be retained for up to one year.

If you contact us, the contact details and message you provide are used to respond to the request. See the Privacy Policy for the complete notice.

The current installer is not digitally signed, so Windows may display an unknown-publisher warning. Code signing remains an important planned release improvement. See the download and verification instructions.
