Free Screencast 8.0.0 — August 15, 2026
Capture and recording controls
- Record a full display, one selected window, or a physical-pixel custom region.
- Use independent system-audio and microphone devices and volume controls, plus a webcam overlay.
- Use cursor and click effects, shortcuts, snapshots, pause/resume, and a capture-safe floating controller.
- Close drawing mode from its controller without pen input intercepting the close button.
Clearer timing, presets, and scheduling
- Added useful built-in recording presets so the preset list is not empty on first use.
- Clarified countdown as seconds and automatic stop as minutes, with a distinct manual-stop choice.
- Added explicit hour, minute, and duration units to scheduled recording.
Formats and file-size control
- Added MOV, WMV, and AVI alongside MP4, MKV, and WebM.
- Improved default compression behavior and explained the size estimate as MB per minute.
- Kept advanced bitrate behavior understandable without presenting an unexplained “target size.”
Library, trimming, and GIF export
- Improved thumbnail and first-frame loading so media does not appear as an unexplained black preview.
- Added a shared trim interface with draggable start/end handles, preview positioning, step controls, and fast or precise output.
- Reused the same range-selection workflow for GIF export.
Interface and packaging
- Fixed sidebar navigation hover contrast and aligned navigation icons consistently.
- Made the website link open the official site directly.
- Built a complete Inno Setup installer containing the required application and FFmpeg files.
